Prairie Blazing Star (Liatris pycnostachya) is known for its tall, bright purple spikes that reach 4ft tall. It's one of the best nectar sources for Monarchs and American bumblebees, as well as a Host plant for the rare Glorious Flower Moth (Schinia gloriosa). Prairie Blazing Star loves sunny, medium clay soils. In a landscape layer in front of shorter species. Because of the spikey nature, the blooms won't bury shorter species as much, which makes a great highlight to draw the eye.
