Purple Coneflower - (Echinacea purpurea)

Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is perfect for landscaping in medium clay soils. However, it can handle drier sites, making it a rather easy plant to start out with. Purple coneflowers attract large butterflies, bumblebees, sweat bees, and the Diana fritillary (Argynnis diana). You can plant in groupings or masses. Just make sure to let it reseed so your plant doesn't die out. Even though it's a perennial, the plant, like any other form of life, will still age.

Unlike cultivars or hybrids you find at other nurseries, we sell the straight species. This means that when the original plant seeds and eventually ages out, you won't get weird mutations or outbreeding depression caused by hybridization. The best way to keep yellow asters at bay is to not overwater. Once established, you want to let it adjust to the natural rain cycle. The hot, dry period will kill yellow asters. Additionally, if you space your plants out and avoid planting in mass, you'll have fewer problems.

Potted Plants

All of our native plants are grown in 3.5” x 3.5” x 5” deep pots, the perfect size for developing strong root systems. Each plant is carefully grown until its roots reach the bottom of the pot, ensuring they are healthy, well-established, and ready to thrive in your landscape.

Local Pickup

Plants are available for local pickup only at our nursery. Once you place your order through our shop, you’ll be able to select a convenient date and time to pick up your plants. Each plant comes with a tag that includes both the common and scientific name for easy identification.
